Toyota Repairs

All vehicles need repairs at one time or another and Toyotas are no exception. Hoses, gaskets and belts will deteriorate overtime due to temperature fluctuations and age. The clutch, brakes and tires are also normal wear items. Keeping up with these repairs can help save you time and money in the long run. Some of the most common repairs our technicians see are:

Variable Valve Timing (VVT)

Variable Valve Timing systems improve your Toyota’s performance and fuel economy. If the VVT solenoid goes out, your engine light may come on. Other symptoms include a noticeable drop in fuel efficiency, and your Toyota may develop a rough idle. If ignored, a VVT issue will lead to bigger problems since the engine is no longer being properly lubricated. Oil changes done on time with quality oil and filters are the best preventative measures you can take. Schedule an appointment with your Pickerings’ ASE Certified expert technician who can replace the variable valve timing solenoid if necessary.

Valve Cover Leaks

To prevent oil from leaking, your Toyota’s engine is sealed with a valve cover and gasket. This gasket can become brittle and cracked over time, leading to an oil leak. Even small oil leaks can lead to major engine damage and costly repairs. A Pickering’s ASE Certified technician will be able to spot leaks in your valve cover gasket and repair or replace it.

Oil Pan Gasket Leaks

Are you still driving your Toyota with an oil leak? If your oil pan is leaking, you risk damaging your engine because it lacks enough oil for proper lubrication. Common signs of an oil pan leak are oil spots beneath your car or a check engine light. If you notice either one, bring your Toyota to Pickering’s right away for a proper diagnosis and necessary repairs.

Cooling System Leaks

Radiator Hoses

There are two cooling system hoses that attach to the radiator, carrying coolant to and from your engine. If you notice a green liquid underneath your Toyota, you are mostly leaking coolant (antifreeze). The last thing you need is an overheated engine leaving you stranded on the roadside with serious engine damage.

Water Pump

The water pump is responsible for maintaining the flow of coolant to your engine.  In some models a bad water pump can damage the timing belt. Both should be replaced at the same time to avoid further issues.  Signs of a faulty water pump are steam coming from the radiator, and coolant leaking underneath your vehicle. Bring your Toyota to Pickering’s for repairs before it overheats or much more serious engine problems occur.

Power Steering

The seals on the power steering pump can become cracked and damaged with normal wear and tear.  It’s the same thing with the hoses that run from the pump to the steering rack. You may notice a whirring sound coming from the pump. Another common symptom is the need to top off your power steering fluid more frequently. A Pickering’s ASE Certified technician will check the entire power steering system to find and fix the leak at its source.

Motor Mounts

Motor mounts secure the engine of your Toyota to its chassis and suppress engine noise. With bad engine mounts, you will notice extra vibration and clunking noises as you accelerate or while shifting in and out of park. This extra movement can harm the engine and loosen everything attached to it. Bring your Toyota to Pickering’s Auto Service to have your motor mounts replaced right away.

Fuel Pump

If the fuel pump goes out while you are driving, the engine will shut off and you could find yourself stalled  in traffic or stranded by the side of the road. There are a few warning signs that can indicate a failing fuel pump such as difficulty starting the engine or loss of power on acceleration. Pay attention to these warning signs and bring your Toyota to Pickering’s Auto Service to have the fuel pump replaced.

Ignition Coils

Ignition coils (spark coils) are responsible for sparking the engine. With a faulty ignition coil you will notice the engine backfiring or misfiring and the check engine light may come on. Have your Toyota inspected by one of our ASE Certified technicians so they can scan your vehicle’s computer for trouble codes.
