Lexus Repairs
All vehicles need repairs at one time or another and Lexus is no exception. The hoses, gaskets and belts will deteriorate over the life of the car no matter the make or model. Items such as the clutch, brakes and tires experience wear and tear over time. Keeping up with these repairs can save time and money in the long run. Some of the most common repairs our technicians see are:
Variable Valve Timing (VVT)
Variable Valve Timing systems rely on solenoids to control the flow of oil to the timing chain. A bad or failing solenoid will lead to more serious problems since the engine is no longer adequately lubricated. Your Lexus may develop a rough idle or you may notice a drop in fuel efficiency. If you notice these signs or if the check engine light comes on, be sure to have one of Pickering’s ASE Certified technicians check the computer codes to properly diagnose and fix the problem.
Throttle Body Issues
The throttle body regulates the amount of air flowing into the engine based on how much you press on the accelerator pedal. Dirt and grime can build up inside the housing causing an imbalance in flow. Electrical issues can also cause throttle body problems. Signs to look for are a low idle or a very high idle. You may also notice a check engine light. Bring your Lexus to Pickering’s Auto Service and our ASE Certified technicians will diagnose and fix the issue.
CV Axles
The CV axles on your Lexus are covered by a protective rubber boot that keeps grease in and dirt out of the CV joint. These rubber boots will harden and crack as they age allowing grease to leak out, drying out the joint. If you notice a loud clicking sound when turning corners, it’s an indication that the CV joint is worn out. If you continue to drive with a damaged CV joint, it will wear out and eventually fail to the point of disintegrating. Our ASE Certified technicians will inspect the axle boots during your routine Lexus maintenance visits. However, if you notice anything between visits, be sure to contact Pickering’s Auto Service right away.
Power Steering
Rack and Pinion
As your rack and pinion gears, bushings and bearings experience normal wear and tear, they may develop a power steering fluid leak. While driving your Lexus, you may notice that the steering wheel feels looser. Other warning signs include the steering feeling unusually stiff or squeals and hissing sounds coming from the steering column.
Power Steering Pump
The pump and hoses on your power steering unit can develop cracks or tears, leading to a fluid leak. Signs and symptoms include a whirring noise coming from the pump or a frequent need to top off the power steering fluid. If you notice anything unusual with your power steering, be sure to bring your Lexus to a Pickering’s ASE Certified technician to have it checked and repaired.
Ignition System Failures
Damaged or worn spark plugs will put strain on the ignition coils. If your Lexus is backfiring or misfiring, it may mean your ignition coils are failing. This can lead to more serious exhaust problems if it’s not fixed. Bring your Lexus to Pickering’s Auto Service for maintenance and repairs right away.
