Kia Repairs
All vehicles need repairs at one time or another and Kias are no exception. Due to fluctuations in temperature, hoses, gaskets and belts become brittle and crack over time. Normal wear items also include the clutch, brakes and tires. Keeping up with these repairs will help save you time and money in the long run. Some of the most common repairs our technicians see are:
Airbag System
A flashing airbag light on your instrument dash means your airbag system is not working properly, which is a dangerous and serious problem if you were involved in an accident. There is a recall for some 2010-2013 Kia models including the Forte, Optima, and Sedona, as the airbags may not deploy in a front-end collision. If you know of any issue with your airbags or notice the airbag light is illuminated, bring your Kia vehicle to Pickering’s Auto Service right away for repairs. We fix the issue and get you safely back on the road.
Check Engine Light
A check engine light can indicate a variety of different issues with your engine. You’ll want to get your Kia checked out by an ASE Certified technician as soon as possible. Some of the most common problems we see are:
Cylinder Misfire
Your check engine light may illuminate because of a cylinder misfire. A code reader can tell you which cylinder is problematic, however, the root cause may be a bad spark plug, problems with the fuel injectors or the ignition coils. Bring your Kia to Pickering’s Auto Service where our ASE Certified technicians will diagnose the problem and make all necessary repairs.
Catalytic Converter
A check engine light can also indicate a problem with the catalytic converter in your Kia. A sudden drop in fuel efficiency, a failed emissions test, or a vehicle that won’t start are all signs of a problem with your catalytic converter. Bring your Kia to Pickering’s Auto Service where an ASE Certified technician can replace your catalytic converter and get you back on the road in no time.
Evaporative Emission Control System (EVAP)The Evaporative Emission Control System regulates the emissions that are released into the atmosphere. If your check engine light illuminates and a code scan indicates it’s an issue with your
EVAP System, check your gas cap to make sure it’s on tight. If the check engine light doesn’t turn off, there may be a larger issue with the EVAP system such as a leak. Bring your Kia to a Pickering’s ASE Certified technician who can diagnose the problem and make the repairs.
Faulty Sensors
Another reason for a check engine light can be a faulty engine sensor on your Kia. Other symptoms include engine misfires, a rough idle or difficulty starting your vehicle. If your check engine light is on, bring your Kia to Pickering’s Auto Service where our ASE Certified technicians can test your sensors and replace them if necessary.
Gear Shift Lever
Kia has recalled the 2011-2013 Sorento because of a problem with the gear shift lever. The shift lever can be moved out of “park” without applying the brake, increasing the likelihood of you being involved in an accident. If you have issues with your Kia’s gear shifter locking, sticking, or releasing unexpectedly—even if it’s not part of the recall—bring it to Pickering’s right away for repairs.
Faulty Immobilizer
Your Kia is equipped with an anti-theft system that uses a microchip in your key fob. However, this system can sometimes be problematic for the owner. If you insert the key in the ignition and nothing happens and you don’t see the key light on your dash illuminate, wait a few minutes and try it again. If the problem becomes more frequent and is a point of frustration for you, bring your Kia to Pickering’s Auto Service for repairs.
Wheel Bearings
If you hear a grinding or knocking sound coming from one of the wheels it could be a bad wheel bearing. It’s best to have your Kia inspected as soon as possible with one of Pickering’s ASE Certified expert technicians. If you continue to drive your vehicle with a bad wheel bearing, the problem will get worse. You may have to replace the tires as they will wear unevenly. If the wheel bearing is completely missing, the wheel can fall off while your car is in motion causing even more damage to your vehicle. Get the necessary repairs now before you have a worse problem or serious accident on your hands.
