Hyundai Repairs
All vehicles need repairs at one time or another and Hyundais are no exception. Hoses, gaskets and belts will become brittle and crack due to temperature fluctuations and age. Other normal wear items include the clutch, brakes and tires. Keeping up with these repairs will help save you time and money in the long run. Some of the most common repairs our technicians see are:

Check Engine Light
A check engine light means you should get your car checked as soon as possible as it could be a variety of different issues. Here are a few of the most common problems we see:

Cylinder Misfire
A cylinder misfire will result in an illuminated engine light. Possible root causes are a bad spark plug, problems with the fuel injectors or ignition coils. Bring your Hyundai to Pickering’s Auto Service where our ASE Certified technicians can scan the code and make the proper diagnosis.

Catalytic Converter
A check engine light can also indicate a problem with your Hyundai’s catalytic converter. Other symptoms include a sudden drop in fuel efficiency, failing an emissions test or your vehicle is slow to accelerate when you press the gas pedal.

Faulty Sensors
A faulty engine sensor on your Hyundai can result in a check engine light, engine misfires or a rough idle.

If your check engine light is illuminated, have your vehicle inspected by a Pickering’s ASE Certified technician who can diagnose the problem and make any necessary repairs.

Evaporative Emission Control System (EVAP)The
EVAP system prevents excess fumes and other emissions from getting into the atmosphere. If you notice a check engine light with a diagnostic code for the EVAP system, a common cause can be a loose gas cap. Make sure the gas cap is fully tightened. If the check engine light stays on, there may be a bigger problem with the EVAP system such as a leak. Be sure to have your Hyundai inspected by an ASE Certified technician at Pickering’s Auto Service. They can check the diagnostic codes and make any needed repairs to get you back on the road.

Transmission Problems
If you are having difficulty shifting gears or experiencing a loss of power, hesitation or stalling, it may indicate a problem with your transmission. Some Hyundai models including the Veloster, Sonata, Tucson and Elantra have a dual-clutch transmission (DCT) that is known to be problematic. If you notice any issues with your transmission, bring your Hyundai to Pickering’s Auto Service right away for a proper diagnosis. Our ASE Certified technicians will make the necessary repairs and get your vehicle’s transmission performing at it’s best again.

Gear Shift Lever
There is a recall for the 2011-2014 Hyundai Sonata due to a faulty gear shift lever. The shifter may show the wrong gear, meaning if you put your car in “park” it could still be in gear, increasing the risk of your vehicle being involved in an accident. This is a dangerous issue and should not be ignored. If you have any problems with your Hyundai gear shifter locking, sticking or releasing unexpectedly, bring your vehicle to Pickering’s Auto Service right away for an inspection and necessary repairs.

Power Steering System
The electronic power steering (EPS) system in some Hyundai Elantra sedans has a known defect. The recall includes model years 2008-2010 in which the power steering system suddenly stops working, making it difficult to control the vehicle. The steering wheel may tighten or even lock up increasing the risk of a crash. Don’t wait—bring your Hyundai to Pickering’s Auto Service and have one of our ASE Certified technicians inspect and repair the power steering before any serious issues occur.

If your airbag light is flashing, it means your airbag system is not working properly. This is a dangerous and serious problem if you were to be in an accident. The 2011 Sonata has a recall since the airbag may not inflate in a crash. If you know of any issue with your airbags or notice the airbag light is illuminated, bring your Hyundai to Pickering’s Auto Service right away for a proper diagnosis and repairs.
