Honda Repairs

All vehicles need repairs at one time or another and Hondas are no exception. Due to age and temperature fluctuations, hoses, gaskets and belts will deteriorate overtime. The tires, clutch, and brakes, including rotors and pads, are also normal wear items. Keeping up with these repairs will help save you time and money in the long run.  Some of the most common repairs our technicians see are:

Air Bags & Seat Belts

Problems with the Takata airbag inflator have resulted in massive recalls that affect many automotive brands. The good news is the airbags in your Honda can be replaced under factory warranty in most cases.  If you are having issues with your seatbelts, repairs may be covered under Honda’s Lifetime Seat Belt Limited Warranty.

Transmission Failure

The 2005-2010 Honda Accord models have automatic transmission problems, some of which required recalls. These transmissions are prone to early failure due to a faulty secondary shaft bearing. Your engine could stall or the check engine light may illuminate, signally there is a problem. Even more serious, your Honda may roll away after putting it in park. If you see a check engine light or notice any changes in your transmission, be sure to bring your Honda to Pickering’s Auto Service for a diagnosis and repairs.

Radio Code

Many Honda models are equipped with an anti-theft code for your radio. If the battery has been disconnected or replaced, you may be asked for a code to unlock the radio. This code is usually found in the owner’s manual or on a sticker inside the glove compartment. If the code is missing, you may be able to extract the code from the radio itself or it may be necessary to contact Honda to obtain the code.

Power Door Lock Failure

If the doors on your Honda are locking and unlocking randomly, it’s a symptom of a failing actuator. This is a part that can’t be fixed and instead should be replaced. If you are having trouble with your power door locks, schedule an appointment with your Pickerings’ ASE Certified expert technician.

Oil Leaks

Valve Cover Leaks

Your Honda’s engine is sealed with a valve cover and gasket to keep oil from leaking out. Over the years, this gasket will harden, becoming brittle and cracking. The result is oil leaking from the valve cover. Oil leaks almost always lead to more serious and expensive engine repairs. If you see oil spots underneath your vehicle, make an appointment right away to have your Honda service with one of our ASE Certified technician.

Oil Pan Gasket Leaks

The oil pan in your Honda holds the oil the engine needs in order to keep lubricated and running smoothly. The gaskets on the oil pan will eventually wear out resulting in oil leaking from the pan. If your check engine light is illuminated, or you see oil spots under your Honda, bring it to Pickering’s Auto Service for repairs before more serious engine damage can occur.

Cooling System Leaks

Plastic side tanks

If you’ve noticed a loss of coolant or your engine is overheating, it could be a radiator leak from the plastic side tank area. An overheating engine is a serious problem and should be repaired immediately by an ASE Certified technician. In many cases, the plastic tanks cannot be repaired and instead the radiator will need to be replaced.

Radiator Hoses

The radiator hoses carry coolant to and from your engine. Over the life of your vehicle, these hoses can crack allowing your Honda to leak coolant. If you notice a sweet-smelling, green liquid underneath your car or your engine is overheating, have your cooling system serviced with a Pickering’s ASE certified technician right away before more serious problems occur.

Key/Ignition Switch

If your Honda starts up and immediately stalls or doesn’t start at all, it could be a faulty ignition switch. Another indicator of a failing ignition switch is the dashboard display and other electrical components stop working. Have your Honda inspected by one of our ASE certified expert technicians to determine if the switch needs to be replaced.
