Cadillac Repairs
All vehicles need repairs at one time or another and Cadillacs are no exception. Due to extreme temperature fluctuations hoses, gaskets and belts will deteriorate. Items such as the clutch, brakes and tires experience wear and tear over time. Keeping up with these repairs can help save you time and money in the long run. Some of the most common repairs our technicians see are:
Power Windows & Door Locks
The power window regulators found in each door of your Cadillac can fail causing the window to stick or fall into the door, which can be extremely frustrating. Door lock actuators can become noisy, squeaky or fail completely. If you are having trouble with your power windows or door locks, schedule an appointment with your Pickerings’ ASE Certified expert technician.
Cooling System
While it’s common for Cadillacs to develop a leak in the water pump over time, the damage to your engine can be severe. When the engine is running, the water pump circulates antifreeze, or coolant into the engine to regulate the temperature and prevent overheating. If your water pump becomes faulty you will see high temperature readings or a puddle of coolant under your vehicle. Bring your Cadillac in for a full vehicle health inspection to identify problems early and avoid costly repairs.
Northstar Engine
The Northstar engine, common on many Cadillac sedans, is prone to oil and coolant leaks. If your Northstar engine has overheated previously, your Cadillac is more likely to blow a head gasket in the future—a costly repair. Be sure to watch for any of the following oil leaks and have your oil serviced regularly with a Pickerings’ ASE Certified expert technician.
Valve Cover Leaks
Your Cadillac engine is sealed with a valve cover to prevent oil from leaking out of the engine. The valve cover gasket can deteriorate resulting in an oil leak. Even a small oil leak can cause major damage to your engine. Have your oil serviced on a regular basis with a Pickering’s ASE Certified technician. They will be able to spot leaks in your valve cover and replace it.
Oil Pans
The oil pan contains the oil the engine needs to keep it lubricated and running smoothly.
It’s common for the oil pan gaskets to wear out over time, resulting in an oil leak. You may notice oil spots on the ground beneath your car. If your engine warning light comes on, bring your Cadillac to Pickering’s right away for a diagnosis.
Rear Main Seal
A leak in your rear main seal is a time and labor-intensive repair. Due to the location of the leak, either the transmission or the engine will need to be removed in order to replace the seal. Having a Pickering’s ASE Certified technician change the engine oil on your Cadillac regularly will help you avoid this repair.
Air Suspension & Electrical/Magnetic Ride Control Suspension
Air bag suspension systems like those commonly found in Cadillacs can begin to leak air or the compressor itself can go bad and need replacing. A common sign of air suspension issues is that your car is riding lower than it normally does. In some cases, it’s an option to replace the air or electrical/magnetic ride control shocks with standard struts/shocks as a more affordable option. Consult a Pickering’s ASE Certified technician to find out the best option for your Cadillac.
Air Intake Manifold Gasket Leaks
Air intake leaks are common on GM vehicles, especially those with 5.3L V8 Vortec engines. Your Cadillac’s intake manifold gasket can become brittle and cracked, allowing air to get into the engine. This can cause drivability issues and poor gas mileage. In most cases we can replace the gasket and resolve the issue. Sometimes the intake manifold itself will also be damaged and need to be replaced.
Wheel Bearings
The seal on wheel bearings can go bad allowing water and dirt to penetrate the bearings causing them to overheat. The most common symptom of a bad wheel bearing is noise coming from the wheel area.
Steering and Suspension Components
Issues with the steering and suspension components are not uncommon, especially in Cadillac SUVs and Trucks. The following parts are prone to failure:
- Ball Joints
- Tie Rods
- Sway Bar links
Ignition Components
- Ignition Coils: Ignition coils are another problem we see frequently in Cadillacs. Symptoms include the engine misfiring. Much more serious exhaust problems will develop if not repaired right away.
- Key/Ignition Switch: You may notice issues with starting your engine if your ignition switch is going bad. Your Cadillac may start up and immediately stall or it may not start at all, leaving you stranded or at the very least, late for work.
- Lock Cylinders: Since the ignition lock cylinder turns every time you insert the key and start you Cadillac, it will eventually wear out. You may have trouble inserting and removing the key, or starting the engine. If you experience problems with any of your ignition components, bring your Cadillac to Pickering’s Auto Service as soon as possible.
Camshaft and Crankshaft Position Sensors: If your camshaft or crankshaft position sensor is starting to fail, your check engine light will illuminate or you may have trouble starting the engine. Anytime the check engine light is illuminated, be sure to bring your Cadillac to one of Pickerings’ ASE Certified technicians for a diagnosis right away.
