Extending The Life Of Your Vehicle’s Brake System

Brake Repair Service in Arvada, Lakewood & Westminster | Pickering's Auto Service

Better Performance with Better Braking

We don’t spend a lot of time thinking about the brakes on our vehicle except when we suddenly need to stop. However, we are all interested in getting better performance and a higher safety rating from our cars and the braking system is a vital part of that. A good braking system gives the driver more confidence and a better driving experience.

Brake Service

To ensure the reliability and safety of your vehicle, have your brakes serviced regularly with one of Pickering’s ASE certified expert technicians at our Arvada location. Our expert technicians are continually trained and updated with the latest information in order to provide you with superior brake repair services.

To ensure that your vehicles’ brakes are in the best possible working condition, our services may include:

  • Inspecting and measuring the thickness of brake pads. Replacing worn brake pads if necessary.
  • Inspecting the anti-lock brake system (ABS), and hydraulics (calipers/master cylinder)
  • Checking brake components, including the lines for fluid leaks and/or wear.
  • Inspecting the brake rotors/drums for warping or damage. Resurfacing or replacing damaged brake rotors or drums.
  • Flushing and replacing brake fluid as needed or based on 15,000 or 30,000 mile service intervals, to remove water and air from the brake lines.
  • Testing and/or adjusting emergency/parking brake.

Importance & Frequency of Brake Service

Properly functioning brakes can go a long way to ensuring your vehicle is safe and reliable. Brake problems often start out small but can lead to costly repairs if they go undetected and unrepaired for very long. Here are a few reasons why it’s important to have your brakes inspected by one of Pickering’s ASE certified technicians regularly:

  • Under normal driving conditions, heat and friction will eventually wear out the braking system components such as: brake pads, shoes, drums and rotors.
  • Stop and go traffic, such as with a daily commute, can wear your brakes out more quickly.
  • Frequent trips to the mountains means more wear and tear on your braking system.
  • Regularly hauling a trailer or heavy loads will mean you need to have your brakes serviced more often.
  • After ten of thousands of miles, the brake’s hydraulic components including calipers, wheel cylinders, and brake hoses will eventually need replacing.
  • More costly repairs and loss of braking ability can result from worn brake components.
  • Worn rotors can warp more easily when they get hot because the metal is thinner.
  • The hotter your brakes are, the less likely they are to perform at their best.

Brake Replacement Warning Signs and Symptoms

Your braking system is the most important safety mechanism on your vehicle. Your vehicle’s failure to stop in a timely manner can result in a serious accident. To avoid costly repairs and replacements, Pickering’s Auto Service recommends having your brakes checked at least every year. Ensure the safety of your vehicle by having your brakes inspected immediately if you suspect something isn’t quite right. Some common signs of a brake problem include:

  • Squeaking, squealing, or grinding noises when applying the brake or when the vehicle is in motion
  • Illuminated dashboard warning lights for brakes or anti-lock braking system (ABS)
  • Vehicle pulling or jerking to one side when braking
  • Needing to pump the brake pedal in order for them to work likely means you have a leak in the system
  • Brake pedal feels hard, soft, or spongy when pressed
  • Brake fluid leaking from around wheel or engine compartment
  • Increase in the distance it takes to come to a complete stop
  • A wobbling or shaking steering wheel when applying the brakes can indicate warped rotors
  • A burning smell or smoking brakes is a sign they are overheated

If you notice any of these warning signs, bring your vehicle to Pickering’s Auto Service right away where one of our ASE certified technicians will inspect your brakes and make the necessary repairs to get you safely back on the road.
